ARTIST TAKEOVERS
2024
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Artist Takeovers provide an opportunity for Arts Network Ottawa to connect, collaborate, and champion artists within our community. If selected, creatives gain access to our Instagram platform, allowing them to showcase their artistry through Instagram LIVE, stories and feed. We will prioritize equity-deserving groups in all our takeovers and offer artists the option to choose one of Ontario/Canada's history months/weeks/days for their performance if they wish.
The Takeovers consist of three hours. We ask that artists provide:
-1.5 hours minimum on Instagram LIVE
-3 social media posts
Artists are required to go on Instagram LIVE for a minimum of 1.5 hour. This can be divided into either two 45-minute sessions or three 30-minute sessions. Artists may use this opportunity for introduction, discussing their craft, sharing inspirations, highlighting past accomplishments, and promoting upcoming events. They can also opt to showcase their skills through live practices such as painting, musical performances, dance, or reciting poetry.
Furthermore, artists are required to create three posts, offering flexibility in content. These posts can serve as promotional material for upcoming events, showcase assets from past events, or feature images and/or videos of completed or in-progress works. The choice of content is entirely at the discretion of the artist, allowing them to share with a new audience whatever they deem fitting.
The overall time commitment for these activities is expected to be approximately 2 hours, leaving an additional hour for artists to engage further. During this remaining hour, artists have the option to return to Instagram LIVE if desired, or they can utilize the time for stories, which may include videos, photos, promotional materials, Q&A sessions for viewers, and more.

We acknowledge that our offices are on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation. The peoples of the Algonquin Anishinaabe Nation have lived on this territory for millennia, stewarding the land, the water and all that contributes to life in this region. Today, many Indigenous communities continue to be denied the opportunity and resources to make and experience their traditional art on this land. We pledge to make justice and reconciliation a priority through our work by amplifying Indigenous voices and their experiences.
